Annual Fund

As is true with most private schools, tuition simply does not cover the expenses at Harbor Montessori, especially if we are to maintain and improve our world-class programs.  To be exact, tuition only covers 65% of the costs at HMS.  To make up the difference, we have two major fundraiser—one of which is our Annual Fund.  

Some ask why we don’t simply raise our tuition to cover our costs.  The answer is simple.  First and foremost, raising tuition means that some families will no longer be able to afford to send their children to HMS.  That means that we will lose a valued community member.  While the spot may be filled by another student, no child is ever truly replaced.  No community is ever the same when they loose a member.  Secondly, tuition is not tax-deductible past Kindergarten.  Would you rather give a donation to HMS, a non-profit, and receive a tax deduction, or just pay more in tuition.  Our families are savvy enough to select the option that makes the most financial sense.

We realize that every family’s situation is unique, and that many of our families truly sacrifice to send their children to HMS.  However, each year we apply for grants.  The first question every grantor wants to know is “how much in-house support do we have?” – and they measure that by donations to the Annual Fund.  Every year, we strive to have 100% of our families donate to Annual Fund, even if their donation is modest.  Why?  Because it give us a better chance of winning grant monies to support our school.

We also are sincerely grateful for the number of grandparents, aunt and uncles and community members who donate to our Annual Fund.  Together, we can support our children and their teachers in their efforts to obtain a world-class education.

Auction

The Harbor Montessori School Auction is our largest social event of the year for parents.  It is also one of two major fundraisers for the school.  As is true with most private schools, tuition simply does not cover the expenses at Harbor Montessori, especially if we are to maintain and improve our world-class programs.  To be exact, tuition only covers 65% of the costs at HMS.  To make up part of the difference, annually we host our Auction.

The Auction evening consists of both silent and live auctions, dinner and dancing.  While the Auction theme changes each year, the amazing assortment of baskets, trips, experiences and children’s projects consistently provides many opportunities for guests to support the school in a fun and rewarding way.  The class projects alone make the Auction an event not to be missed, and we haven’t even gotten to the video of all of our adorable and talented students.

Each year, generous families and local business owners give Auction items of all kinds.  We simply could not put on the Auction without their support.  If you would like to support Harbor Montessori School, there are ample opportunities.  You can make a cash donation (e.g. sponsor the teacher’s table), donate a gift card, service or basket, buy a raffle ticket or just come and bid on the many fabulous items up for bid.  There are items from $2 to $…..   Just don’t miss out on the fun and celebration of our children, their wonderful teachers and our exceptional school.
