A small set of Primary Montessori Materials

This is one small set of the Montessori materials used by students and teachers in one of our primary classrooms. Each classroom is outfitted with multiple sets of different materials like these shown in the photo. As you can see, they are arranged in a precise order, and are easily accessible to the children of primary age. Each material has a specific task (or set of tasks) associated with it, and a specific reason for being placed in the classroom. The teacher will demonstrate to each student in a one-on-one fashion how the material is to be used and what constitutes skill mastery of the task associated with that particular material. Some of the materials are designed to be used as a set of tasks with an increasing set of challenges. When the student has demonstrated the mastery of a particular task to the teacher, the teacher will demonstrate to the student the next level of task mastery with that material. Task mastery is achieved through student repetition of the task at hand. Each time a student selects a particular material, they are responsible for returning the material to its proper location just as you see in the photo.
